  • Altomare, Staci Louise:  Supporting Effective Implementation of AB 12-Providing Web-Based Trauma Informed Resources to YSB Case Managers Serving Former Foster Youth
  • Barrera, Lillian Alejandra:  Grant Writing for Communities
  • Barrios, Daisy Berenice:  Latino Grassroots Community Organizing in Humboldt County
  • Brandon, Nichole Amberlee:  Healthy For Life
  • Brown, Melissa:  School Social Work

*  This project involved creating a manual for the Lassen County of Education defining the roles of a school social worker who provides counseling services to the special education population.

  • Cain, Julie Ann: Parent Perspective on Recruitment and Retention in Del Norte County
  • Cobbs, Porscha: Needs Assessment of the Cher-Ae-Heights Indian Community of the Trinidad Rancheria

*  The purpose of this project was to determine what social services Tribal members would like to see in their community. Additionally, the research asked Tribal members to assess the effectiveness and accessibility of current social services. The results of the data collect will be used to inform Trinidad Rancheria’s grant writing endeavors.

  • Crawford, Jenny: An Assessment of Humboldt Mediation Services for Tribal Cultural Community

*  This research was intended to explore how Humboldt Meditation Services can best serve Indigenous peoples with respect and awareness for their culture. The research aslo intended to utilize Indigenous perspectives on how culture should be taken (or not taken) into consideration in community meditation.

  • Ehlers, Jessica Kathrine: Community Building Workshop for Three Rivers Charter School Staff
  • England, Georgia Christine: Utilizing a Community Readiness Assessment to Determine if a child Abuse Services Team (CAST) Program is Feasible in Rural Del Norte County Advisor
  • Fink, Tanya: Combating the Food Crisis – A Humboldt County Pet Food Bank Needs Assessment

*  The purpose of this study was to ascertain the need for a community pet food bank in Humboldt County’s veteran population.

  • Flint, Joslyn:  Humboldt County In Home Support Services Desk Guide

*  This project resulted in the creation of a resource and procedural manual for IHSS social workers and public health nurses in Humboldt County with the intension of providing consistent service delivery to IHSS clients.

  • Flores, Lindsey: Do Higher Instances of Self Esteem and Optimism Lead to Lower Instances of Bullying Behavior in Middle School Children?

*  This project intended to explore bullying in Middle School age children; specifically the ways in which social and family environment can influence the development of bullying behavior.

  • Freedman, Jessica: Customized Visitation Curriculum and Implementation Plan for Humboldt County Child Welfare Services

*  This project intended to develop a customized visitation training, curriculum, implementation and/or coaching plan using strength based visitation and the Humboldt Practice model.

  • Frisk, Stanton Levi:  Mindfulness Interventions for Veterans: Fostering Healing Through Applied Mindfulness Techniques Advisor
  • Galindo, Concepcion:  Trauma Informed Care on the Web

*  Per request of the 0-8 Mental Health Collaborative, this project involved the creation of a trauma informed website to compliment the 0-8 Mental Health Collaborative’s website.  The intension is that, together, the two websites will be a complete resource for trauma informed education specific to the unique needs of Humboldt County agencies.

  • Gillette, Rebecca A.:  Cultural Competency Curriculum for Teen Court Advisor
  • Gonzalez, Wendy:  Cal Poly Humboldt Social Work Webpage – Bilingual Resources for Social Work Students

*  The purpose of this project was to identify the needs of Humboldt bilingual social workers.  In addition the focus was to conceptualize and implement a resource guide on a webpage for bilingual social work students to assist in their ongoing need to access reliable bilingual resources.

  • Good, Bobbie:  Successful Boards, Sustainable Organizations – A Guide to Nonprofit Board Tools

*  This project included a guide with templates, tools and tips for local nonprofit boards to assist with the creation and modification of board manuals, bylaws, and orientations.

  • Hickenbottom, Delores:  Developing Deaf/Hard of Hearing (d/hh) Curriculum for Human Service Providers in Humboldt County

*  This project involved a partnership with the Humboldt County Transitional Age Youth Collaboration (HCTAYC) and the Youth Advisory Board (YAB) to create and implement a d/hh curriculum to present to service providers.

  • Holmes, Rhonda:  Developing an Invention/Support Group Model for Public School Educators – A Group Facilitation Toolkit for Arcata School District School Counselors

*  The project resulted in the creation of a resource toolkit to guide new Arcata School District staff, parents, volunteers and interns in the facilitation of an intervention/support group designed for the counselors of Arcata School District.

  • Hotz, Rebecca:  Art as Sustainable Practice

*  This project investigates expressive arts therapy as it applies to social work.  The information was used in coordinating a community event to showcase pieces that have served in the healing process of the performers.  

  • Jamison-Alward, Kathrine:  Six Rivers Planned Parenthood's Spare Change Peer Education and Teen Theatre Troupe: Audience and program participant Outcomes, Fall 2006-Spring 2011
  • Jones, Althea: Betty Chin Outreach Project – Building Organizational Capacity

*  This project explored capacity building in the form of grant writing, donations and building community awareness through education for the Betty Chinn Center and Foundation, a local non-profit organization that addresses issues of homelessness.

  • Kanji, Joanna:  Evaluating Parent and Caregivers Outcomes of the “We Love Veggies” Program

*  This project evaluated participant’s outcomes after completing the “We Love Veggies” Program, a program that promotes healthy eating amount children, parents and caregivers.   The evaluation aimed to identify the programs general outcomes, curriculum and structure from a participant’s perspective.

  • King, Heather: CalFresh Eligibility Barriers in the College Student Population

*  This project explored the barriers College students face in becoming eligible for CalFresh, the California Supplemental Nutrition Program.

  • Krause, Larissa:  Awareness and Wellness Around Challenges Social Workers Face – An Informative Approach to Self Care

*  The purpose of this project was to present a workshop to Cal Poly Humboldt Social Work undergraduate students that aims to raise awareness of he common occupational challenges social workers face including stress, burnout, secondary trauma, vicarious trauma, compassion fatigue, empathy, and hope.

  • Loveless, Katherine: Teaching Probate Conservatorship in Humboldt County

*  This project intended to explore the need for the development of a curriculum to teach community members the process of probate conservatorship in order to fulfill their mandates.

  • McMahon-Brlansky, Liza:  Encouraging Allies in Generalist Social Work Practice
  • Park, Minhee:  CalFresh Participation among International Student and Staffs Who Are Working in California
  • Petrillo, Emily:  The Role of Nutritional Education in Support Groups in Grieving

*  This project included a co-facilitated six-week long support group with a family in grieving (including caregiver and friends) for two hours each week to teach them how to prepare and cook healthy food options.  The project undertook the evaluation of a pilot model of hospice bereavement support group that incorporates nutritional education and cooking skills for individuals who have lost a loved one in the past year or more.

  • Powell, Ashley Dawn:  Substitute Caregivr Community needs Assessment
  • Rigby Sr., Keith Bryant:  Self-Efficacy Differences Between Perpetrators and Victims
  • Shewmaker, Megan: Creating Customizable Visitations for Families at the Humboldt County Family Connection Center

*  This project created a model for the Humboldt County Family Connection Center (HCFCC) to use whilst conducting visitations with families.

  • Shoop, Marli:  Proposal for the Creation of Adventure Ropes Courses in the City of Fort Bragg

*  This project involved the formulation and presentation to relevant agencies in the City of Fort Bragg of the proposal for the installation, operation and program implementation and maintenance of rope course(s).  The project also included the procurement of funding through multiple sources including applications for funding grants. 

  • Sider, Rebecca:  Trauma – Healing, Wellness, and Sustainability in Social Work

*  This project involved creating a curriculum to be used by future MSW students at Cal Poly Humboldt.  The curriculum addresses trauma and secondary trauma in a social worker’s professional and personal lives as well as how to create and maintain health, wellness and sustainability to be effective as social work practitioners.

  • Smith, Heather Jean: Bridging the Gap – A Resource Guide for Law Enforcement Engaging with Individuals with Mental Illness
  • Stablein, Sunita Ann:  Stress Management and Self-Care Education as a Component of a Workplace health-Promotion and Prevention Program Curriculum
  • Thompson, Shawn Aerie:  Hospice Grief Support Training
  • Trochtenberg, Rochelle:  Community Building to Community Center – A Rural Community’s Effort to Create a Sustainable Multi-use LGBTQ Community Center

*  This community-based project made use of a participatory change framework with the purpose of supporting the Humboldt Grassroots LGBTQ Planning Group to engage in community capacity building as a mechanism for reaching their long-term goal of creating a sustainable, multi-use LGBTQ Community Center.

  • Valeski, Kristin Nicole:  Reducing Barriers and Stigma Surround Behavioral Health Services in Native Americans Who Utilize United Indian Health
  • Wallace, Nathan Lloyd:  Exploring the Value of a Pilot Group Integrating Curriculum for Mental Health, Body Image, and Eating Disorders
  • Werren, Bryn Emilie:  People's Rights as Defined by Law in California, Abuse Prevention, and Mandated Reporting Pertaining to Dependent Adults and Service
  • Wilhelm, Jenny Nadine:  Women's Wellness Circle
  • Zajanc, David: Helping to Heal the Effects of Trauma in Young Children at the MAC through Group Education

*  This project involved the development of a multi-week curriculum to address the impacts of trauma on the early development of children and provide tools for parents to help their children better cope with and heal from the effects of trauma.
