Title IV-E BASW Child Welfare Training Project

The California Social Work Education Center’s (CalSWEC) Title IV-E Stipend Program is intended to increase the number of specially trained social workers in public and Tribal child welfare agencies serving California’s must vulnerable children and families. The CalSWEC Program offers financial and educational support to Bachelor’s students who are interested in or are already working in the field of child welfare, in exchange for a post-graduation employment obligation in a public or Tribal child welfare setting in the state of California.
 
There are two BASW CalSWEC programs at Cal Poly Humboldt:
 
Full-Time Program: (for students who are not yet employed with a public child welfare agency)
  • A $15,000 stipend in the final year for students in the full-time BASW program.
  • The senior year field placement must be in a California public or Tribal Child Welfare agency
  • The student must take an additional 1.5 unit Child Welfare Seminar course each semester during their senior year.
  • The student must complete a one-year employment obligation after graduation at a public or Tribal Child Welfare agency in the state of California.
  • Students must be enrolled as Social Work majors at Cal Poly Humboldt to apply for the program.
  • Students must be in their senior year and have a May graduation date to participate in the program.
  • The number of stipends is limited. Applications must demonstrate commitment to public/Tribal child welfare.
 
Part-Time/Employment-Based Program: (for students who are already employed with a public or Tribal child welfare agency)
  • Up to $14,164 reimbursement per year for up to two years (junior and senior years) for tuition, fees, books, and travel.
  • Student must be a current employee of a qualifying public or Tribal Child Welfare Agency in the state of California, and must have a letter of support signed by the Director of their employing agency.
  • The student must take an additional 1.5-unit Child Welfare Seminar course each semester during their internship year.
  • The student must intern at their agency of employment, in a role different than in their current position.
  • The student must complete a one-year employment obligation after graduation at their qualifying place of employment.
