Jamie Jensen
Associate Professor
Hello, I'm Jamie, an Associate Professor in the Department of Social Work at Cal Poly Humboldt. I hold a BASW and MSW from Cal Poly Humboldt, and I've been part of the faculty here since 2008. Additionally, I possess an MA in Human Development and a Ph.D. in Human and Organizational Systems.
My professional background encompasses a diverse range of areas, including aging, program development, community planning, family caregiving, medical social work, care management, and group work. In the realm of teaching, I have experience in micro and macro practice, organization and community systems, field practicum, and social gerontology. Currently, I am instructing an integrated seminar for our MSW-DL students, focusing on equipping them with skills for academic success, fostering community cohesion, and integrating theory and practice to nurture their professional identities.
Beyond academia, I am engaged as an organizational development consultant, primarily within the domains of social services, healthcare, and higher education. My work revolves around promoting inclusivity and cultural safety in organizations, seeking to dismantle barriers that limit the participation of some individuals while privileging others. Additionally, my research interests include exploring innovative approaches to aging in place within rural communities.
Moreover, as the Founder and Director of the Full Life Institute, I am dedicated to enhancing the well-being and quality of life for older adults. Through our collaborative efforts, we aim to develop and implement strategies that empower individuals to lead fulfilling lives as they age, ensuring that they can thrive in their chosen communities while enjoying every aspect of the journey.
