My background and training is in trauma-focused psychotherapy and drug and alcohol treatment. I earned my MSW from the University of Pennsylvania. In 2005, I sold most of my belongings and drove West to work as a wilderness therapist. I spent 5 years working in expedition-based treatment, taking groups of teens out on 21-day backpacking expeditions as an alternative to brick-and-mortar residential treatment. I moved to Humboldt County in 2010 to work as the Social Services Director for Hospice of Humboldt, where I supported and trained social workers, chaplains and grief counselors to provide heartfelt care for patients and families. These days, I teach at Humboldt and offer LCSW supervision in the community.
